• Launch of Augeo Family Estate Shiroka Melnishka Loza and Merlot 2019

In December 2020, just before the Holidays, we launched our newest red wine from the series Augeo Family Estate – Augeo Family Estate Shiroka Melnishka Loza and Merlot 2019.

Augeo Family Estate Shiroka Melnishka Loza and Merlot 2019 includes 70% of the typical variety ‎from Struma Valley and 30% Merlot. The wine has medium intensity color with attractive crimson ‎notes. The aromas are the characteristic for Shiroka Melnishka Loza strawberries, white cherries ‎and red fruit. The distinctive aromas for Merlot blueberry, blackberry and chocolate could be felt as ‎well. The taste reconfirms the aromas with additional fruit notes that could be savored. The wine ‎has a long finish and potential for aging. The series is limited to 2679 bottles.‎

The Shiroka Melnishka Loza grapes came from our own vineyards near Vranya village, planted in ‎‎1955. The grape variety Shiroka Melnishka Loza was named after the broad leaves of its vine and ‎after the region where the grapes grows – Melnik. The grape variety is unique and cannot be found ‎anywhere else around the world. Merlot is an international variety, originating from France. In our ‎country it grows well in the Thracian valley in the regions with stony soil and long hours of sunshine. ‎The ‎wines have a protected geographical indication Thracial Valley.‎

  • Successful end of the grapes-picking for Augeo

The mirror date 10.10.2020 marked the end of the grapes-picking of the typical variety shiroka melnishka loza from Augeo Family Estate’s own vineyards in Vranya village, planted in 1955. Traditionally, three generations of the family of producers joined.

The team picked for hours the large and thick grapes, which will turn into red wine from shiroka melnishka loza. The grape variety was named after the broad leaves of its vine and after ‎the region where the grapes grow – Melnik. The grape variety is unique and cannot be found anywhere else around the world.

The year 2020 was difficult not only because of the pandemic situation, but due to the often rainfall during the summer season, which is not typical for the region. Despite all, the quality of the grapes is high and we expect the wine to become excellent, with potential to win medals at international competitions.

The wine from last year’s vintage has been in months in oak barrels and will be bottled in October to be launched on the market later this year.

  • Augeo Family Estate with a gold medal at The Balkans International Wine Competition 2020

Augeo Family Estate Melnik 55 2018 is a gold medalist at The Balkans International Wine Competition 2020 (BIWC). The ninth edition of BIWC 2020 took place in Belgrade, Serbia between September 9th and 11th 2020. The date had to be changed twice due to the pandemic situation. Wine experts from over 20 countries, along with the Chairman of the jury Mr Konstantinos Lazarakis MW tasted and graded the wines during the competition.

“In regard to the dynamic situation this year, this is the only competition where an Augeo Family Estate wine is participating, which is why we are extremely proud of the result,” shared Gergana Manolova from the family of the producers.

The third wine of Augeo Family Estate from the grape variety Melnik 55 confirmed the success of the already depleted earlier vintages. With the participation in the prestigious competition, Augeo Family Estate proved once again that the Bulgarian wine has excellent qualities.

The gold medalist Augeo Family Estate Melnik 55 2018 has deep cherry color. The intensive aroma combines ripe forest fruits, strawberries, dried fruits and accents of forest herbs and vanilla cream. The taste is complex and rich, with sweet notes of ripe fruits, cinnamon and forest herbs. The wine was aged for 12 months in new 225L Bulgarian oak barrels, which give intensive notes of oak in the taste. It has the characteristic of the grape variety medium body and a spicy finish. The potential for aging in the bottle is long and probably the wine will develop well and will keep its strong points for 3 or more years after bottling.
